Ship to Shore – Ephesus Shore Excursion
ITINERARY
This is a private tour for passengers of cruise ships docking in Kusadasi or Izmir.
Our Guide and driver will pick you up from your cruise ship and drive you to Ephesus for a half or full day tour of the extraordinary and well-preserved ruins of Ephesus, one of the most important cities of the ancient world. You will see the house of Virgin Mary, where any believe she spent her final days, You will see the Odeon, the Fountain of Trajan, the steam baths of Scholastic, the temple of Hadrian and the incredible library of Celsus. Also, the Theatre, where Saint Paul preached, with its 24,000 seating capacity. It was the largest theatre in the ancient world. You will walk along the Arcadian Way, where Mark Anthony and Cleopatra once rode in procession.
After lunch, we will visit the Temple of Artemis (Diana), deemed one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Although today little remains of this magnificent structure it was four times larger than the Parthenon in Athens. The Temple served as both a marketplace and a religious institution. It grew so wealthy, thanks to offerings by thousands of pilgrims each year, that it became the world’s first bank. We will drive you back to your ship in time for your departure.
