ITINERARY
The mountains behind Kas are some of the most beautiful anywhere in the Taurus Mountain range. Below the tree and winter snow lines are yayla (high plateaus). Falling away from them, canyons, gorges and passes with melting snow rushes in the spring. Many of these gorges were important trade routes, some of which are still in use and some of which have been abandoned. The scenery is dramatic; extensive pine and cedar forests, outcrops of juniper topped by the impressive Ak mountains, snowcapped in July and then a pale red until the Autumn snow. Until recently, the paths between villages were for donkeys and pack animals. These paths can still be followed.
